Shimmery and Elegant

Booklet invite with unique french fold

Now for a different style of invite.  This booklet invite is more involved than your usual invites.  A shimmery cover with an elegant french fold.  Not to mention the shimmery pages of information and my favorite part, a rsvp postcard that is perforated so that your guests can safely detatch from the booklet without disturbing the whole invite.

As I was going through my photos I came across a photo of something that we discovered on our get away to St. Louis.  This destination is also shimmery and elegant and like most weddings, is at a church.  Behold The Cathedral Basilica of Saint Louis.  83,000 square feet of mosaic art.  For those of you not interested in doing the math, this comes to 41,500,000 pieces of glass.

Adam didn't want me to take this obviously staged photo. :)

You open the impressive heavy wooden doors expecting to find a nice vestibule and instead you find an incredible room of shimmery, golden glass.

The ceiling of the Vestibule

It's overwhelming and still doesn't prepare you for what you see behind the doors to the actual cathedral.

All mosaic and marble! (well, the pews are wooden)

My pictures (with my notoriously crappy camera) does not in the least do it justice.  Adam and I noted that usually a cathedral has amazing stained glass windows.  In this case you don't even notice the stained glass.  They also have a nice museum in the basement that is worth a look.  Regardless of your religious affiliation, if you are ever in St. Louis you must, must, must stop in and see this Basilica.
